Dear Editor,

Another $233,000 plus was paid to fend off the lawsuit–that–never–was by the former city attorney. Your tax dollars at work, which is more than you can say about the former city attorney who has not worked for many weeks, having to be replaced by a private law firm to further add to the costs.

This hemorrhaging of city funds isn’t the end off it: we’ll lose the benefit of city services that will be cut back because of these expenses. And don’t bother asking those involved for details: they won’t tell.

A new twist on “don’t ask, don’t tell.” Our involvement in this affair begins and ends with supplying the money.

I’m offering one helpful suggestion: as the replacement for the former city attorney, hire the attorney who represented the former city attorney. Now there’s someone who knows how to settle a case, even a non–existent one.
