This sign, alerting motorists on Hale Avenue to an impending Indian casino, was found to be an April Fool’s joke, relieving many area residents.
Calls to Morgan Hill City Hall and County Supervisor Don Gage’s office found no knowledge of applications for a casino. The land is where city and county join.

Red Phone on Saturday, April 9, answered a query from a concerned citizen about city workers using city vehicles while off duty, especially during lunch hour.
The caller was particularly interested in one vehicle frequently parked at the 24-hour Nautilus in Tennant Station for an hour at a time.
Public Works Director Jim Ashcraft said that, while 90 percent of Public Works employees have only 30-minute lunch hours, the person getting his exercise at Nautilus does have a one-hour lunch period.
“That makes it perfectly legal,” Ashcraft said.
He also referred to the written policy, explained in Saturday’s Red Phone by Human Resources Director Mary Kaye Fisher. She said the guiding rule to vehicle use during working hours was “reasonable use”.
“City employees may use city vehicles on authorized breaks within the city limits,” Fisher said.
“If they choose to go to a gym, they may as long as it is within the city limits and within their break time. We don’t require them to drive back to the corporation yard or City Hall first.”
