Game 2: Fury 0, Palo Alto USC 0
The Fury traveled to Palo Alto and battled the Union Sports Club to a 0-0 tie. The match featured defensive toughness by both teams. Fury goalie Brianna Canty stopped over a dozen of the Union’s shots. She made several single handed saves when there was only the Union forward between her and the goal. The defensive back line was anchored by Emily Mande, who was assisted on the left by Gina Moreschini and on the right by Mika Matsumoto and Kasandra Kachaji. Midfielders Lauren Hunsaker, Melanie Menage, Anna Molyneux, Cassandra Valenzuela and Ariana Santamaria were equal to the task with their Union counterparts. Alyssa Gummow’s strong kicks down field kept the Union out of their offensive side of the field. Forwards Aubrey Young, Lauren Bertero and Nicole Gonzales had more opportunities on goal in the second half, however couldn’t convert against an equally tough Union defense.
