Giants 7, Cubs 6

The Giants handed the Cubs their first loss of the season. The Cubs scored 1 run in the 1st inning on a walk to Matt Jarvis, who stole 2nd and 3rd and then came home on a sacrifice by Andrew Bueno. The Giants took the lead in the bottom of the 1st when Tommy Naranjo got hit by a pitch and Swanson drew a walk. Taylor Pullen-Ali scored Naranjo on a sacrifice and Ben Nuño hit a single to score Swanson. The Cubs scored 3 runs in the top of the 3rd inning on a walk to Dylan Kral, who stole the circuit, just sliding under the tag at home. The Cubs then scored 2 more on a walk to Tim Kahlenberg and doubles by Matt Jarvis and Bueno. The Giants retook the lead in the bottom of the 3rd on 5 walks and singles by Nuño and Brandon Lozada. The Cubs scored 1 in the 4th on a single by Mike Jarvis, who then stole the circuit. The Giants got that run back in the bottom of the inning on a triple from Aguayo, who then scored on a sacrifice by Nuño. Heading into the top of the 6th inning down by only 2 runs, the Cubs scored 1 on a single by Kinsey, who then stole 2nd and 3rd and came home on a throwing error.

Cubs 7, Diamondbacks 6

The Cubs scored first, getting 2 runs in the 1st inning when Matt Jarvis took 1st after being nicked by a pitch, then stole 2nd and 3rd and came home on a throwing error. Andrew Bueno then got on base with a single and was driven home on a sacrifice from Adrian Garcia. The D’backs got back 1 run in the bottom of the inning on a single from Hagan, who then stole 2nd, 3rd, and home. The D’backs tied the game with 1 run in the 2nd on a walk to Root, who then stole the circuit for a run. The Cubs added a run in the 3rd on a walk to Jaryd Pollard, who then scored on singles from Bueno and Kyle Kinsey. The D’backs then tied the game again on a walk to Kyle Alexander, who stole 2nd and 3rd and came home on a sacrifice from Hagan. The Cubs broke the tie in the 6th inning, scoring 4 runs on straight singles from Matt Jarvis, Bueno, Kinsey, Garcia, and Pasek. The D-backs then scored 3 on walks to Austin Tobia and Jim Hagan and a crushing 2-RBI single to right field by Forestier, who then took 2nd on a sacrifice by Tyler Tobia, stole 3rd, and took home on a passed ball.

Cubs 19, Reds 10

The Cubs offense was blistering, scoring 4 runs in the 1st inning on 3 walks and singles by Matt Jarvis, Kyle Kinsey, and Mike Jarvis, then scoring 5 runs in the 2nd on 4 walks, a 2-RBI single from Bueno and a 2-RBI double from Garcia. The Cubs added another 4 runs in the 3rd on 4 walks, an RBI single from Pasek, and a 2-RBI single from Matt Jarvis. The Reds offense got on track in the 4th inning, scoring 5 runs on a walk, 2 players hit by a pitch, doubles from Patrick Kelly and Jesse Sanchez, a single from Andre Arroyo, and a crushing 3-RBI triple on a full count from Cleve Gurney. The Cubs added 1 run in the bottom of the 4th on a walk to Garcia, who stole 2nd and 3rd and was hit in by Mike Jarvis.

Cubs 8, Braves 7

The Braves scored in the top of the 1st when Bryan Freitas hit a single, stole 2nd and 3rd and scored on a double from Sean Schlaefli. The Cubs put up 2 in the bottom of the 1st on a single from Matt Jarvis, an RBI double from Kinsey, and an RBI single from Mike Jarvis. The Braves added a run in the 2nd on a walk to Nick Pignone and an RBI single from Jackson Davis. The Cubs also added a run in the 2nd when Matt Cummings drew a walk, stole 2nd and 3rd and scored on a passed ball. In the top of the 3rd inning, the Braves took the lead with 3 runs on singles from Taylor Turnipseed and Bryan Freitas, who each stole to 3rd and scored on passed balls. Kevin Nelson then drew a walk, stole 2nd and 3rd and scored on a single by Sean Schlaefli. The Cubs regained the lead in the bottom of the 3rd, scoring 3 runs on a double from Bueno, RBI singles from Kinsey and Mike Jarvis, and an RBI double from Pasek. The Braves tied it up in the top of the 5th, scoring 1 run on a double by Turnipseed, who then stole 3rd and scored on a passed ball. The Cubs regained the lead in the bottom of the 5th, scoring 2 runs on a double by Bueno, who stole the circuit, followed by Adrian Garcia, who drew a walk and then also stole 3rd and home. In the top of the 6th, the Braves’ Bailey Scott scored Schaefli with an RBI single to bring the Braves to within 1 run.

Cubs 10, Mets 9

The Mets and Cubs played the extra innings of a game played on April 14 that ended the regulation 6 innings in a 9-9 tie. In the bottom of the 7th, the Cubs’ Andrew Bueno hit a double into center field, stole 3rd and then took home on a passed ball to end the game with the Cubs on top.

Pinto division

Red Sox vs. Yankees

For the Yankees, Anthony Saso, Ryan Spohn and Alejandro Torres homered in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sammy Johnson went 2 for 2 and scored twice, Gus Rubio went 2 for 2 with a double and Augie Eulo went 2 for 2 and scored. Yankee pitching was led by Gus Rubio and Alejandro Torres.

For the Red Sox, Dante Spencer went 3 for 3 and scored, Dylan Gutierrez went 2 for 2 with two singles and Big Ben Hagiperos went 3 for 3 with a single and a double before he crushed a homer deep over the left field fence. In the field, Andrew Salinas made a great snag at second to get the runner at first. Ben Hagiperos dove for an infield line drive and then threw out the runner at second for a double play. Patrick Muller and Riely Burg pitched well, striking out six

Angels vs. Yankees

Alejandro Torres, Anthony Saso, and Sammy Johnson each struck out two batters while shutting out the Angels for the first three innings. Ian MacGowen, Jared Gunsky, and Andrew Reisenauer pitched for the Angels. The Yankee bats were lively throughout the game as they scored multiple runs in each inning. Both Torres and Gus Rubio smacked two doubles in the game with other doubles added by Johnson, Saso, and Jimmy Castro. Other Yankees getting hits included Ryan Spohn, Auggie Eulo, Brandon Puthoff, Zachary Herscovitch, and Jeremiah Diaz. The Angel bats roared alive in the 4th and 5th innings with doubles hit by Reisenauer and Bronson Kirchick. Other Angels contributing to the effort were Zach Robertson, Ariston Dell, Jack Baker, Mathew Hagan, Ryan Daggett, Christopher Armstrong, and Brendan Shores.

Angels 14, Indians 3

The Angels were led by Jayson Smith who pitched 3 innings and gave up 1 run while hitting a single and triple and scoring 2 runs. Brett Kirchick pitched 2 scoreless innings and had 2 RBI’s. Blake Latos, Parker Tamura and Riley Vandagrift each scored 2 runs. Latos and Sean Hoyle each made great catches on hard hit balls into left field. Nick Giordano pitched a scoreless inning, hit a single and made several plays in the field. The Indians were lead by Josiah Wylie who had 3 singles and scored a run. Wylie also pitched 2 innings and gave up 3 runs. Michael Dukes and Jacob Masters scored the other 2 runs for the Indians.

Angels 10, A’s 9

Down by 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning, the Angels scored 3 runs to win the game. Jayson Smith started the final inning with a walk and scored, Brett Kirchick singled and Nick Giordano single to score Kirchick. Giordano scored the winning run one pitch later on a steal and a 2 base error. Parker Tamura pitched 2 good innings had 2 singles and scored 2 runs for the Angels. Kirchick and Giordano also scored 2 runs. Ben Hughes struck out 5 of the first 7 hitters, giving up one run for the A’s. Hughes, Luke Northcott and Billy Brannon each scored 2 runs for the A’s.

Bronco division

A’s 19, Red Sox 4

Solid A’s pitching from Tommy Nourie kept the Red Sox scoreless through 3 innings. The A’s struck first with a lead off double by Tyler Lerma. Franky Palmer singled in Lerma and Alex Hagiperos lined a single to right center to score Palmer. Chad Amundson crushed a triple to deep right field and score on a passed ball. The Red Sox came back in the fourth when Michael Garrett smashed a double into the gap in right field. Kolby Rousseu put the Sox on the board with an RBI single scoring Garrett. Rousseu stole second and third and then scored on a past ball. For the A’s, Jacob Conlan came in to pitch in the fourth and held the Sox scoreless. Alex Hagiperos closed out the last two innings with 4 strike outs, and went 4 for 5 with 3 singles and 1 double.

Braves vs Reds

Home Team Pitchers: Marcus Valcarel, Dylan Carrubba, Francis Tuttle

Visiting Team Pitchers: Ethan Cox, Katrina Carter, Sean Martin

Key Hits: Francis Tuttle hit a double and a single for the Braves. The Reds had an offensive explosion getting 25 hits with 10 extra base hits. Nino Fortuna hit for the cycle with an inside the park home run, a triple, double and a single. Katrina Carter went 5-5 with a triple, double, and three singles. Ethan Cox had two doubles and a single. Raymond Ott hit two doubles and a single. Sean Martin hit a double and two singles. Spencer Hall, Austin Isaksen, and Trevor Williams each had two singles.

Nice Plays: Francis Tuttle pitched very well for the Braves and Ethan Cox pitched well for the Reds. Elijah Changco of the Braves made two very nice catches on pop fly balls from his third base position. The Braves’ Jeremy Urdiales made a nice catch on a line drive hit by Spencer Hall. Ethan Cox and Nino Fortuna each made a nice catch on a pop fly while playing first base.

A’s 11, Reds 9

The Reds scored in the first after a two out walk to Travis Saenz who later score on a passed ball. The A’s bats were quiet until Alex Hagiperos drove a deep lead off triple to start the second. Steven Villarreal reached on a walk and Chad Amundson hit a two-RBI single to right for the lead. In the fourth, the Reds’ Trevor Hickey drew a lead off walk and stole second. Jerry Jacob drove in Hickey with a single to center field. Bryan Gomes followed with a walk and then stole second before scoring on a fielders choice to tie the score at 4. The A’s scored again in the fourth. In the fifth, Nourie reached on a walk and then scored the go ahead run. The Reds came back and scored 3 in the sixth when Michael LemMan and Winston Van Keulen reached on an errors. Joe Snyder slammed a clutch single to centerfield to score LemMan and Avan Keulen. Trevor Hickey drove a single to center to score Snyder and then scored on a passed ball to take a 3 run lead. The A’s came back strong in the bottom of the 7th when Jakob Conlan got a lead off walk, Tyler Lerma singled and Frankly Palmer singled to load the bases. Tommy Nourie drove a single to center to score Conlan. Alex Hagiperos hit a double to score Nourie and Steven Villarreal singled in Hagiperos to win the game.
