In honor of the Relay for Life, which was held May 21 and raises money for the American Cancer Society, students at Jackson Elementary put on a play about Susan B. Anthony and the fight for women’s rights.

Catherine Rivard’s fourth grade class performed their play for fourth, fifth and sixth grade students at the school on May 19. The brochure and the play itself explained Anthony’s quest for women’s suffrage and her subsequent trial for illegal voting in 1872.

The students dedicated the play to Relay for Life, the brochure said, to celebrate life and because many in the Jackson School community have been touched in some way by cancer.

Former Jackson Principal Mike Crocker, who has been battling cancer for several years, was master of ceremonies for the Relay for Life luminaria ceremony Saturday night.
