For the past three years Gavilan student Domingo Payne has been
balancing school work and raising his five children with realizing
his dream to become a college professor and writer. Payne is the
recipient of a $20,000 transfer scholarship to the University of
California at Santa Cruz that will help him achieve his goal.

Payne is the recipient of a $20,000 transfer scholarship to the University of California at Santa Cruz that will help him achieve his goal.
“It’s a huge help and I was thankful to get it,” Payne said.
Payne was among 118 other Gavilan students awarded scholarships Thursday night at the annual Gavilan College Awards Ceremony. In all $90,000 in financial assistance was distributed.
Graduation takes place at 6:30pm Friday, May 27, in the college gym at the Gilroy campus, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.
San Benito County Sheriff Curtis Hill will deliver the keynote speech and Lori Head, a 2003 graduate of Gavilan, will deliver the alumni address to the class of 2005.
