Dear Editor,

As Chairperson of the sixteenth annual Patriotic Sing, I would like to take this opportunity to invite members of our community, families and friends to this year’s program at 6pm on Sunday, July 3 , at the Britton Middle School Gymnasium. The Patriotic Sing is one of the events brought to our community by the volunteers of Independence Day, Inc. The program, which is free to the public, will include two slide presentations, essay contest awards and a chance to celebrate the birthday of America through music. We will feature our children’s chorus of over one hundred enthusiastic singers! Please join us and rekindle your patriotism and honor those who serve our country!

This year, we will once again create our “Wall of Heroes’” pictures of local men and women who are currently serving in the Armed Forces. If people would like to bring a poster board with pictures and information about a local Armed Forces member to the Britton Gym, the gym will be open from 6 to 8:30pm on Saturday, July 2, and again from 10 am to 1pm on Sunday, July 3. We will pay tribute to the courage of our local heroes in song and in pictures. (Please put your name and phone number or email address on the back of the picture or poster so we can return them promptly.) Following the Sing on Sunday evening, you are invited to dance in the streets of downtown Morgan Hill to the music of the Dadz.

On Monday, July 4, 5K runners and walkers will begin their races at 8am. They will be gathering at P.A. Walsh School. At 10am, plan to watch Morgan Hill’s Fourth of July Parade, “America, Our Home, Sweet Home.” After the parade, travel to Community Park where the Family Festival will feature food, entertainment and fun for young and old. The music of the Usual Suspects will set the stage for fireworks after dark. Finally, a dramatic pyrotechnic show will conclude the events presented by Independence Day Incorporated. All in all, some memory-making ways to celebrate a small-town Fourth of July in Morgan Hill!

Thank you, IDI, and Happy Birthday America!
