Gilroy Police Officers responded to reports of a vehicle theft in progress at about 5:51 a.m. Saturday inside a mobile home complex, located at 500 W. 10th St.
Upon arrival, officers detained 24-year-old San Jose resident Jerry Joseph Alcaraz, who was found inside the victim’s vehicle, according to a GPD press release.
“The victim reported to officers that he saw someone inside his vehicle, pushing it out of the driveway,” the press release states.
The victim confronted Alcaraz in the driveway, but retreated inside after a brief physical altercation. Authorities say the victim did not sustain any injuries and Alcaraz was arrested for carjacking. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
