The Sobrato girls basketball team took a big step forward toward a West Valley Division title Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs pulled out a 54-46 over Lincoln to move within one game of clinching at least a share of a league championship.
Sobrato needs to beat San Jose Thursday to assure it will finish no worse than tied with Lincoln and it will hold the tie breaker between the two schools.
Megan Yabumoto had one of her most explosive games of the year, putting up 21 points to lead the Bulldogs. Teammate Hazel Hill had 16 points with seven rebounds in the winning effort.
Sobrato had a strong first half, going up by five at the break, leading 23-18.
The Bulldogs had a decent third quarter offensively, putting up 15 points, but Lincoln’s offense was better.
Lincoln pulled within one with a 19-point effort.
But that was as close as Sobrato would let its rival come.
The Bulldogs outscored Lincoln 16-9 to close out the game.
Sobrato could clinch its league title Thursday night in front of a home crowd, with tip off against San Jose at 7 p.m.
