The Morgan Hill Pop Warner Junior PeeWees hosted the Daly City Titans Sunday at Britton. Morgan Hill moved up a division this year and is playing in Div. 2. The opener saw a very stagnant offense gain only 83 total yards and 63 of that total came on two long running plays.

However, the Raider “D” kept the team in the ball game. Playing from its own end of the field most of the day, Daly City won the field position game but could not crack open the stingy Raiders defense, losing yards almost every series.

Leading Raider rusher Julius Travis had 48 yards on 10 carries for the game. His 33-yard reverse late in the game could have won it but a great angle was taken by the Titans linebacker to keep Travis out of the end zone. Jonah Guary carried the ball five times for 26 yards and converted a fourth down on a fake punt for a first down.

A rock-solid defensive line of Jonathon Molina, Clayton Howard , Hunter Sutton, and Dominic Maciel helped inebacker Frankie Palmer tally 13 tackles (seven solo). Jerado Caro made a couple of key tackles on sweeps that saved would be big gains while cornerback Tyler Lerma had five tackles of his own.

MH Junior Midgets

Raiders 33, Titans 6

Matching their point total of last week, the Morgan Hill Raider Junior Midgets beat visiting Daly City Titans 33-6. A powerful offense put together four touchdown drives of 60 yards or better in the first half to put the game away early.

After the game, MH head coach Jimmy Soto said,” We’re taking it week to week and we’ve got goals this year.”

Cruising through Week 1 of the regular season against a fast Div. 2 team like defending regiona champion Daly City, the Raiders looked up to the task.

MH’s first TD was scored by Jeffery Roberts (J.R.) on a 17-yard run. The next MH possession took only one play for paydirt as quarterback Brandon Gustin hooked up with James Hamblin for a 68-yard TD pass. On the ensuing kickoff, Daly City was penalized for a block in the back and pushed deep in its zone. Three plays later, DC attempted to punt but the bad snap was fumbled at the goal line and Jonathon Carin recovered for a TD. Carin had another score on a 60-yard reception from his tight end position. Roberts capped the scoring with a 30-yard TD run. After that, MH relied on its defense, led by Ryan Brewer and Carin, who both recovered fumbles.
