With their record now a perfect 3-0, the Live Oak High football team will try to go for a fourth against North Monterey County Friday at home.
Despite a 1-2 record, the Condors are steadily improving and Acorn head coach Glen Webb said he will not take the team lightly.
“We fully expect North County to come and play,” Webb said. “They will bring their A-game.”
In the past two years, North County tied and beat Live Oak.
The Condors picked up their first win of the season Friday against Gonzales. Before that, they lost to Bellarmine and Golden Valley.
But the Condors have steadily improved over the weeks. After being shut out by Bellarmine 30-0, they came back and came within 10 points of Golden Valley before shutting out Gonzales 21-0 last week.
“They have played some good games against some powerful teams,” Webb said. “They are improving every week.”
Webb said North County has a few weapons at their disposal, including a good passing game.
Condor junior quarterback Ed Stefani has completed nearly half of his passes but has been picked off three times, including twice against Gonzales.
The North County running game is also a force to be reckoned with and was a key component against Gonzales.
Condor junior running back Aaron Palacios has 244 yards on the ground and four touchdowns in three games, including two of the three scored Friday.
Webb said over this week he and his coaches will form a game plan and said his players will be worked hard in preparation.
“The players should be ready to work,” Webb said. “We hope we can maintain the momentum this week.”
On Live Oak’s side, senior running back Doug Porras has been sidelined for the past two games with a sprained ankle. Webb is waiting for news if Porras can play but is not sure if he will be ready for Friday’s game.
