CALLER 1: Hi, I just want to make sure you guys will still be
covering Jeff Garcia this season. Just because he
’s all the way out in Cleveland doesn’t mean people around here
don’t still care about him.
CALLER 1: Hi, I just want to make sure you guys will still be covering Jeff Garcia this season. Just because he’s all the way out in Cleveland doesn’t mean people around here don’t still care about him.
Green Phone: You can be assured the sports department hasn’t lost sight of that. No matter if he’s playing in Canada, California or Ohio, area football fans have every right to be proud of their hometown kid. Unless we hold the bake sale to end all bake sales, it’s doubtful we’ll be able to budget in many trips to Cleveland. But we will give special attention to the Browns and Garcia this year.
CALLER 2: I realize they shouldn’t be priority No. 1, but I’m a Stanford man from way, way back and I’d just like to see an occasional mention of them in my sports pages. They are in our county, after all. And not everyone has the Internet as an easy resource for team information and schedules and stuff. So anyway, just thought I’d mention that.
Green Phone: Thanks for the feedback. Your Tuesday sports page this fall will be jam-packed with all kinds of local football recaps. We’ll try to squeeze in as much information on your Cardinal as we can – as well as updates on San Jose State and your pals from Berkeley. For now, here’s Stanford’s schedule for the upcoming football season. Sept. 4 vs. San Jose St., Sept. 11 vs. BYU, Sept. 25 vs. USC (TBS), Oct. 2 vs. Washington, Oct. 9 at Notre Dame (NBC), Oct. 16 at Washington St., Oct. 23 vs. Oregon, Oct. 30 at UCLA, Nov. 6 at Arizona St., Nov. 13 vs. Oregon St., Nov. 20 at Cal (FSN)
