My husband and I drove to Morgan Hill with the express purpose of surprising our two grandchildren for the variety show at P.A. Walsh Elementary School. My daughter talked me into taking pictures for the parents there and those who could not attend the show.

Imagine our surprise when not only was she and her friend the opening act but also the co-coordinators and the directors of the show. It brought back memories of when she and her siblings were in school and any extracurricular activities were banned by the teachers union in reaction to the government cutbacks. The parents pitched in and put on shows, swim meets and cooking classes {where the students were supervised in cooking and at the end of the year put on a lunch for the parents of the participating students}.

What I saw was a re-enactment of that time. The show had excellent talent, good attendance (an evening show as well perhaps would have enabled many of the working parents to attend). I talked to some grandparents who had traveled to see their granddaughter (opening act by students) before and after the show; they said they didn’t expect it to be so good. Initially they were only there for their relative but said that it was so good they stayed for the entire show.

To the staff and yourself: Kudos, for the excellent conduct of your students during the show. There is some work to be done before next year’s performance, but I am sure if you have Trisha and Marianne producing the program it will be extraordinary.

It is a shame that the local papers did not carry coverage for the show, as the talent was exceptional. I am sure if you were to contact the school they would supply you with names and some pictures. How exciting for the students to see their names in the paper.

Congratulations on a performance well done. Perhaps we’ll see you next year.
