South Valley interest in Coyote Development is rising fast as citizens become aware that 80,000 new people and their support services will soon appear on the northern horizon. To educate themselves and provide some South Valley insight, Morgan Hill residents are encouraged to attend a workshop on the Coyote Valley Specific Plan, Saturday, May 15.

Such vast numbers, which also include 25,000 houses and 50,000 new jobs, are expected to have serious effects on the Morgan Hill School District, local traffic, housing, air quality and retail.

Planning for the development of this area south of Bernal Avenue is handled by the City of San Jose, within whose limits the area lies – but which includes MHSD. San Jose set up a Specific Plan Task Force to lay out the area, with “specific” uses applied to each area – including where to put housing, retail and commercial businesses, parks and greenbelts, transit and schools.

Since no Morgan Hill, San Martin or Gilroy resident – except County Supervisor Don Gage who represents a much larger area – sits on the Task Force, residents have looked for other ways to be heard and even take part in the planning. In two weeks, residents will have another chance.

On Saturday, May 15, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., the public workshop to continue the discussion of how the Coyote Valley land will be used. The workshop will be held at Southside Community Center, 5585 Cottle Road, San Jose; registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

The next Coyote Valley Specific Plan Task Force meets Monday, May 17, at 151 W. Mission St. San Jose in Room 202 A from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
