Sydney Brooker died May 16, 2004, in Gilroy at the age of 93.
He was loved deeply by his wife, Rosalyn Brooker; daughters Marcella Brooker and Dr. Laura Richards-Simmons; and everyone else that knew him.
He left us in body, but not in spirit. “Syd” loved to laugh and even more, Syd loved to make others laugh. The laughter will never leave.
He was born in Chicago on July 7, 1910. For most of his life, he lived in Los Angeles. On Oct. 1, 1950, he married Rosalyn. They loved each other for 53 years. On Jan. 5, 1953, Marcella was born. On Jan. 5, 1955, exactly two years later, Laura was born. Syd had very good timing.
Before retiring in 1974, Syd was a film technician for several Hollywood studios. He made “reversals,” which are copies of films used by editors. So, Syd got to see the movies first. During World War II, Syd was in the U.S. Army and taught aerial photography.
Syd loved many things in this world. His family always came first. He never missed 60 Minutes, was a great fan of Dean Martin, and never said “no” to Roz’s stuffed cabbage.
Burial was May 19 at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park.
