The search for a new leader for the Morgan Hill Police Department is progressing, with five finalists invited back for the next step in the process, according to Mary Kay Fisher, head of human resources for the city.
“The next step is an assessment of management style,” she said Thursday. “We’ve hired a psychologist who will give them …. a management assessment, using paper and pencil and an interview.”
The meetings will be held on Monday, Fisher said, and the data will go to the city manager to help narrow the field again.
“We’ll have another round of interviews involving yet more people, from city employee ranks and citizens,” she said. “Then there is still reference checking and making the offer.”
Fisher said she still hopes an offer can be made by the end of July, and, depending on the needs of the candidate, she anticipates the actual start date could be sometime in late August or September.
“It all depends on how quickly the decision is made, how quickly the background check goes, and of course what is the situation with the candidate,” Fisher said.
Ten candidates were interviewed last week.
