mh cyclist tops at event
Daniel Holloway of Morgan Hill, riding for San Francisco’s Lombardi Sports/Klein Bicycles cycling team, placed in the top four in each of the six events that he contested at the USCF Junior National Track Championships, held June 30 – July 3 at the ADT Event Center velodrome in Carson, California. Holloway, 17, teamed with Pennsylvanian Mike Schnabel, also 17, to earn a gold medal in the Madison by winning all five points sprints in the race, which is contested by teams of two riders. Heavily marked by a contingent of riders from Pennsylvania in the other mass start events, Holloway nonetheless placed fourth in the 25km points race and third in the 10km scratch race, where his late attack was caught by the pack in the final 150 meters. In three timed events, Holloway placed second in the 3km individual pursuit after qualifying first in 3:42.2, third in the 1 kilometer time trial in 1:10.9, and second in the three-rider team sprint. Holloway’s efforts earned him a selection to the long team for the Junior World Track Championships, and his performances with the US National Team during July will determine whether he makes the final selection for the world championships, which begin on July 28 at the ADT Event Center.
