advisers attending the FBLA National Leadership Conference in
Denver recently.
Four Live Oak High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) members and the adviser were among the 5,500 students and advisers attending the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Denver recently.

By placing eighth in the Local Chapter annual Business report, The Live Oak Chapter did its share to help lead California with the greatest number of winnings in the individual, team, and chapter events during the Awards of Excellence Program. Derek Chan and Tiffany Shyuan, the CO-presidents, were the ones who spent countless hours in writing and editing this report.

With the theme, “lead…achieve…succeed!” Live Oak’s chapter did exactly that when it also garnered first place in the Western region for the Largest Local Chapter professional Division members recruited. In addition, the chapter was recognized with the Hollis and Kitty Guy Gold seal Chapter Award of Merit for the chapter’s active participation in the programs and projects advancing the nine goals of FBLA.

Kwame Jackson of the TV show, “The Apprentice,” was highly a energized motivational speaker at the Opening General Session who encouraged the students to be dedicated, responsible leaders in order to achieve their goals and succeed.

The United States Mint in Denver provided an interesting field trip as the group learned about the process of how our coins are made starting with strips of metal to the final counting, bagging, and shipping to the federal Reserve Banks from which the local banks get their coins. At the end o f the tour, each person received one of the sparkling new quarters which are now in circulation as a souvenir.

Some of the many leadership workshops which the members were able to attend included, “Working and dealing with difficult people/conflict resolution,” “Networking your way to success,” “How to develop your best career path: Finding your true career passion,” “The power of yes,” “But wait! There’s more! The new sales success system for business leaders,” “Public speaking friend or foe?” ect.

“I had a lot of fun at the national conference. I competed, participated in various workshops, explored Denver, and met people from all over the country. It was an unforgettable experience,” said Elaine Liu, a first time attendee.
