Finishing off its regular season with a bang, the Morgan Hill Colt A’s trounced a pair of opponents this week to complete a perfect 18-0 season.
On Tuesday, the A’s beat Los Altos/Mountain View 12-0, then downed the Los Gatos Giants 13-4 on Wednesday.
Manager Dave Newton said this year’s Colt League was not particularly strong, but added that the MH A’s will still need a little seasoning before competing in the West Zone Colt All-Star Tournament later this month.
Newton said the team will likely play a warm-up tournament before the West Zones start on July 28 at Valley Christian High in San Jose.
The A’s are led by Live Oak High players Matt Cummins and James Johnson, as well as Sobrato High players Adam Perez, Billy Hill and Danny Nelson.
Last season, the MH A’s surged all the way to the West Zone title match before being eliminated in the team’s first shot at Zone play.
Meanwhile, the MHPB’s other Colt League teams, the Giants and the Orioles, also capped their season this week, splitting a doubleheader against each other. (The Giants won 13-3 on Tuesday and the Orioles won 12-4 on Wednesday.)
Those two teams have compiled a combined all-star team and will compete in the Colt Sectional Tournament in Santa Clara beginning today.
The following players made the MH Colt all-star team:
Orioles: Michael Guio, Kevin Orepeza, Steven Lujan, Kevin Sullivan, Bryan Yates, and Taylor O’Connell.
Giants: Robert Barsanti, Andrew Chiri, Christopher Carin, Adam Hill, Ryan Walters, James Araiza, Justin Villa, Robert Valenti, and Tim O’Rourke.
