for the start of school in two weeks, Aug. 24, and all of them are
open this week for registration or picking up school schedules.
School sites in the Morgan Hill School District are gearing up for the start of school in two weeks, Aug. 24, and all of them are open this week for registration or picking up school schedules.
According to information from the district, elementary students – grades K-6 – new to the district can register at the Enrollment Center in the District Office, 15600 Concord Circle.
Summer hours through Aug. 13 are Tuesday – Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Beginning Aug. 16, the Enrollment Center will be open Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Enrollment packets can be downloaded at http://www.mhu.k12.ca.us/registration.htm
When registering, parents or guardians need to bring the following information:
• Birth certificate or passport confirming that the student was born on or before Dec. 2, 1999;
• Proof of immunizations (California – yellow state immunization record);
• Proof of TB test;
• Health physical (for Kindergarten) – (white CHDP form from a doctor’s office);
• Residency verified by copy of lease/rental agreement indicating the manager or owner name and phone number, utility bill, driver’s license or escrow papers.
Class assignments for most elementary schools will be posted at the school site on Aug. 20 after 5 p.m.; others will be mailed approximately one week prior to Aug. 24. School offices will be open on Aug. 9 for non-enrollment questions.
For parents interested in home schooling their children, MHSD has implemented an Elementary Home School Program which is open to students in grades K-8. There is a classroom for the program’s use at Barrett Elementary School, and a full-time certificated teacher will be coordinating the program. For more information, call 201-6070. Britton and Martin Murphy Middle Schools are open now for registration and have scheduled orientations for new students.
New Britton students may register now in the school office, and testing for new students will be scheduled by appointment. Parents need to allow a two-hour block of time for testing.
Orientation for incoming Britton students will be held on Aug. 23rd at 6 p.m. in the Britton gym. A free hot dog barbecue will be available from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Student schedules and information packets will be provided at the orientation for entering 7th graders and new students. All other students will receive their schedules and information packets on the first day of school. For more information, call 779-5200.
New Martin Murphy students may register and test today, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. An orientation will be held for all incoming 7th graders and other new students Aug. 23 at 5 p.m. in the Murphy gym. Additional information will be provided with the new school year packet, which will be mailed prior to the orientation. For more information, call 779-8351 or 281-1500.
MHSD’s three high schools have opened their administrative offices and are planning various events to kick off the new school year.
Central High Continuation is open for registration through the beginning of school by appointment only. Parents are asked to call the school at 779-5244 for an appointment.
New Live Oak High students can pick up registration packets in the school administration office at 1505 E. Main Avenue. When packets are completed and turned into the registrar’s office, the counseling office will call parents and students to set up appointments for class scheduling. Students may pick up their course class schedules at Live Oak as follows:
• Seniors, Aug. 16, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.;
• Juniors, Aug. 17, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.;
• Sophomores, Aug. 19, following orientation, estimated time 11 a.m.
• Freshmen, Aug. 19, following orientation, estimated time 12:30 p.m.
Completed and signed emergency cards and contract signature sheets (received in the mail) must be returned before class schedules are released.
Any students needing assistance with work permits or transcripts may contact the Educational Services Department at the District Office, 201-6070, through Aug. 13, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday only. After that work permits and transcripts will be issued at the high school.
A centennial celebration is planned for Live Oak High during the month of October.
The staff of the new Sobrato High has moved into the administration building at 401 Burnett Ave., 201-6200. Office hours are 8 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m.
Students may pick up and return registration materials during these hours. Students needing assistance with course selection or course changes (due to summer school or placement errors) should call the school for an appointment with the principal, assistant principal, or the counselor.
Back-to-school information will be mailed to all students and parents this week, including forms need for the beginning of the school year. This mailer will consist of information and forms needed for the opening of school.
Important dates for Sobrato students include:
• Student orientation, Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., students will be returning emergency cards and picking up their schedules;
• First day of school: Aug. 24 at 8:15 a.m.;
• Back-to-School Night: Sept. 8 beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a barbecue and tours of the new buildings, meetings with teachers will begin at 7 p.m.;
• Ann Sobrato High School grand opening celebration, Sept. 18, 1 p.m.
