Because three incumbent Morgan Hill School Board trustees, Jan Masuda, George Panos and Del Foster, are not running for re-election, that filing deadline has been extended from today to Wednesday, Aug. 11 at 5 p.m. Their terms are for four years.

No one has filed papers for the two years remaining in trustee Tom Kinoshita’s term when he resigned earlier this year.

Bob Griesinger has filed papers for one of the School Board’s four-year terms as has Peter Mandel.

Others including Kathleen Sullivan, R.. G. Cassibba, Jr., Rick Page and Michael Davenport have pulled papers but have not yet filed them.

The only thing preventing Sullivan from filing is she is on vacation, said Tuesday she will find a way to file before the deadline.

Sullivan is the mother of two children, Dan, 16, and Julie, 19. Dan will be a sophomore in the fall at Sobrato High School. Julie, a Live Oak High School graduate, will attend San Francisco State University.

Sullivan’s number one goal, she said, is the students.

“I believe everybody needs to be heard,” Sullivan said. “But when we listen to everybody, we need to remember the students are why we’re here.”

Sullivan has worked on the Home and School Club at Paradise Elementary School, Britton Middle School and Live Oak where she served as either president or co-president.

The deadline to file for Gavilan College trustee elections is 5 p.m. today. All incumbents will seek another term. Only one new candidate has filed for each of the two elections.

Three seats on the Gavilan board are up for grabs, one each in the Morgan Hill, Gilroy and San Benito County areas.

Gilroy Trustee Mark Dover, Morgan Hill Trustee Leonard Washington and San Benito County Trustee Tom Breen all filed for re-election to four-year terms.

Manly Willis will run for the Gilroy-area seat on the board.

Washington, a San Jose resident who lives within Morgan Hill School District boundaries, said his reason for seeking another term is clear.

“We just passed a bond measure and I’d like to see it put into practice,” Washington said. “When you put that kind of work into something you hate to get up and leave.”
