As a parent in Santa Clara County, I fully support Measure B, which will be on the March 2004 ballot. Measure B asks voters to approve a small annual increase in the library tax that that we have paid since 1994, which provides much-needed funding for Santa Clara County libraries.
My children, and others in our neighborhood, use the county library all the time. Not only do they use it researching school projects, but also for recreational reading and as a center to participate in community activities. Our community library has become especially important this school year, due to the several budget constraints placed on school libraries.
Without the continued funding from Measure B, library services and hours would be cut, and there would no money to purchase books and update research materials. $8 a year is a small increase to continue funding for a resource so widely used by the community.
We cannot afford to see hours, books and services cut back. By uniting behind Measure B, and getting involved in the campaign, we can save our libraries.
