Are you or one of your family members preparing to take a test soon? Perhaps an academic test such as the SAT or GED? Or maybe you’re studying for a Civil Service exam, or a professional cosmetology test?
With a Morgan Hill Library card, not only can you check out books that have sample tests for all of the above and more, but in addition, you can access a database called “LearnATest,” containing additional sample tests. This database can either be accessed at the library or at home with your library card number and 4-digit PIN number.
In addition to sample tests, LearnATest also includes instant online scoring and a detailed explanation of the answers. It then creates a “personalized analysis” to highlight your strengths and weaknesses.
For tests such as the SAT, LearnATest provides sample tests of each individual section – verbal, math, etc., as well as “online courses” designed to teach you about each of the subsections. For example, there is a course to guide you through verbal analogies, explaining what high school students can expect from these types of questions, and strategies for answering them.
LearnATest is not just for test-takers. The extensive database also has a “Writing Help Center” with courses in business writing and grammar, as well as a “Basic Skills Success” section with such courses as basic math skills and reading comprehension.
Visit the Morgan Hill Library and ask one of the reference librarians to get you started with LearnATest. To try it at home, go to the library’s home page: www.santaclaracountylib.org, and from there click on “Select Databases.” From the drop-down menu, select “LearnATest.” You will need to have your library card and PIN number to access it from home.
