The Gilroy/Morgan Hill chapter of CRA (California Republican Assembly) will host numerous legislative candidates at their monthly meeting on Feb. 5, 7:30 p.m., at Church of the Valley, 13380 Depot St., San Martin.

“This is a great opportunity for informal, one-on-one, conversations with those who may soon be representing us,” said Ben Gilmore, president of the local group.

“Everyone is welcome at our meetings,” continued Gilmore. “At our January meeting we featured seven of those who will be on our ballot seeking places on the County Central Committee.”

South Santa Clara County is represented by eight legislative bodies: Barbara Boxer (D) wants to return to the U.S. Senate; Richard Pombo (R), Mike Honda (D), and Zoe Lofgren (D) want return tickets to Congress from the three Congressional districts into which South Valley was divided.

John Vasconcellos (D) and Bruce McPherson (R) are both termed out of their respective state Senate districts in South Valley. There are nine candidates (6 Democrat and three Republicans as well as numerous candidates from other parties, running for those open seats).

South Valley is also represented by state Assembly members, John Laird (D) and Simon Salinas (D) who are being challenged by two Republicans.

All of the Republican legislative candidates, including those running for the U.S. Senate, have been invited to the meeting. Most of them, except the statewide candidates for Senate, have indicated they plan to attend.
