Dear Editor,
For the fourth year in a row, the Santa Clara County Library system, to which Morgan Hill and Gilroy belong, has been named among the 100 best in the country for high quality and cost-effective service.
The library is also one of the most popular and used resources in our community. And yet, our libraries are now closed on Mondays due to lack of funds. How ironic to have an award-winning library but not enough money to operate.
This is a result of both recent state budget cuts and the defeat of a library parcel tax extension last March.
The answer, of course, is easy. If we want our libraries open every day, we must be willing to pay for them. Next year, we will have the opportunity once again to vote for a parcel tax to support our libraries. If it does not pass, we can expect more closures at the library. We can’t let that happen.
