Dear Editor,

I agreed with the recent Opinion page column about the overreaction of the Sheriff’s Office deputy at Live Oak High during the Every 15 Minutes program until the last two paragraphs where Lisa Pampuch tried to correlate this event with people she politically opposes, under the guise of common sense. This manipulation just doesn’t work.

The columnist criticized Dick Cheney’s ‘F’ word to Patrick Leahy but did not cite Patrick Leahy’s unfounded defamation of Cheney with regard to Halliburton.

She believes the Swift Boat veterans testimonials were ‘smearing heroes.’ These men were sincere American veterans with their point of view based on their experiences, service and status as prisoners of war. Should not these men who risked their lives, were wounded and tortured, been given the simple American right of free speech? To disregard them so casually and callously is to smear their intent and honor.

I wonder how the columnist would describe Dan Rather’s television airing of fraudulent documentation of G. W. Bush’s guard service? Or explain why John Kerry, unlike President Bush, refused to release his military records?

Also, the columnist did not mention Michael Moore’s biased misinformational film, painting our president as a despicable, yet bumbling villain and praising Suddam Hussein as a good, kind man loved by all. Was this merely free speech, not poisonous rhetoric?

The left just doesn’t get it. The values that moved this election were not about gays getting married, it was the arrogance and bigotry of the media and the extreme left that was rejected by a majority of Americans.

It would be a refreshing change to use a little fairness, along with the call for moderation and common sense.
