Meeting for the second time this season, the Live Oak High hockey team anticipated a physical game from Independence. Instead, Live Oak’s focus was clear and their talent shut down the Independence team.
Within the first few minutes, LO sophomore Brian Costello made a tight turn around the net and with an assist from sophmore Kyle Dutra found a hole in the corner of the net to make the first goal.
Costello later added two more goals with assists from Dutra and sophomore Conner Williamson.
By halftime, Live Oak had added six more goals, including tallies by Dutra, junior Chase Norman, junior Ricky Lasher, and senior Matt Edgar.
Senior goalie Michael Anvari had a perfect game, keeping the Independence offense scoreless.
Live Oak plays its last regular game Dec. 3 against Leland and will head into the playoffs in first place.
Gavilan Niners hold November Ace Day
The Gavilan Niners held their November Ace Day on Nov. 18 at the Gavilan Golf Course. Ace for November wasTeri Swan, Morgan Hill, net 30, which was also good for first place in the first flight. Second was Marlene Sherwin, Morgan Hill, net 31.
First in the second flight was Ann Maloney, Gilroy, net 34, second was Joy Chalmers, Morgan Hill, net 34, and third was Opal Imprescia, Gilroy, net 34.
Low putts went to Marlene Sherwin, Morgan Hill with 13. The Turkey shoot winners were Teri Swan and Ann Maloney.
Winners at short course held on Nov. 12 at Blackberry Farms were Marlene Sherwin, Morgan Hill, who came in first in her flight and Irene Rodriguez, San Jose, who came in second in her flight.
