Ellen Elizabeth Crippen Bellairs, beloved wife of Harold Bellairs, died Sept. 25, 2004.
Ellen was a faithful member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church from 1977 until her death. While attending the church, she was a member of St. Anne’s Guild and the Altar Guild. Ellen worked at the Gilroy Senior Center as Activity Coordinator for 15 years, retiring in 1991. She enjoyed her work planning trips and the monthly newsletter. Most of all she loved the people, and they loved her. She, her daughter Carol and her granddaughter Christina volunteered as docents at the Mission in San Juan Bautista. For the pleasure of visitors she often played a piano that came around the Horn in the 1860’s. The piano was located in the Zanetta House at the mission.
She is survived by her daughters Carol Jeanne Eshom, Susan Ellen Edwards, and her twin sons Charles Todd Bellairs and Stephen Kent Bellairs; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her two sisters Mrs. Joyce Hanna of Baltimore, Md. and Ruth Jared of Tonkawa, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Marcia Ann Bellairs, her parents Vernon Simpson and Elsie Mae Crippen, and her brother James Crippen of Merced, Calif.
A memorial service took place Thursday, Sept. 30, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Gilroy.
Ellen loved flowers and she and her husband owned a flower shop in South Dakota before coming to Gilroy. Flowers will be welcome at the memorial service. If desired, donations may be made to the Gilroy Senior Center or to research for Parkinson’s Disease.
Arrangements were made by Habing Family Funeral Home.
