SSJYSL Tornadoes 1, San Bruno Rangers 0
The U13 Tornadoes recorded a win in league play on a marvelous new field at Skyline College.

The early going was even, with both teams mounting several pushes.

The Tornadoes broke through midway through the first half, when Cloey LemMon kicked a long clearing pass that skipped ahead on the slick turf. Taylor Johnson corralled the ball near midfield, and broke past the Rangers’ defenders.

Johnson cleanly beat the Rangers’ goalie to net the only score the Tornadoes would need.

Bella Comin led several offensive rushes for the Tornadoes in the second half, but the Tornadoes were unable to capitalize.

Goalie Nichole Downing was not severely tested as the remaining Tornadoes’ defenders, including Amanda Whitling, Sarah Block, JC Clayton, Amanda Kline, Lexi MacPhail, Nikita Patel, Lindsay Pund, Alex Seda, Mary Thatcher, and Stephanie Wan, all stepped up and controlled the Rangers throughout the second half.

The Tornadoes open their “home” season next week at the Bernal Oval against the OVYSL Clash.
