This nine-month program elevates the class member’s company profile in the community while sharpening leadership and personal skills for the applicant. Class members will study various aspects of their community: government, education, health care and social service agencies, law and justice and media relations plus receive training on ethics, conflict resolution and team building.

Workplace Skills in Retail

Attend this workshop offered by the Gilroy Economic Development Corporation in conjunction with the Silicon Valley Workforce Investment Network and Career Advancement Solutions.

This free course will help you learn the basics of working in retail. The instructor will review the following: Overview of working in a retail environment, principles of customer service, work attitudes and ethics, business communication, dealing with difficult people, handling money, cashiering and scanning practices.

This workshop takes place Nov. 20, Jan. 22, Feb. 19, March 19, April 23, May 21 and June 18. The Hospitality training takes place Oct. 29- 30, Nov. 12-13, 26-27, Dec. 10-11, Jan. 14-15, 28-29, Feb. 11-12, 25-26, March 11-12, 25-26, April 15-16, April 29-30, May 13-14, 27-28, June 10-11 and 24-25. All workshops are 8am-5pm at Career Advancement Solutions, 7425-B Eigleberry St., Gilroy. Due to limited space please call to register in advance.

Basic Bookkeeping

This workshop is for the small business owner who knows that bookkeeping is important for success, but is intimidated, confused, or unskilled in keeping financial records.

Get control of your business with the basic, written (no computers), double entry bookkeeping system, along with simple filing and record keeping techniques. Business banking, auto and petty cash records and working with an accountant will also be touched on in this fast passed workshop.

The workshop takes place Tuesday, Nov. 9, noon-3pm at the Gavilan College SBDC office’s in the Dry Creek Village Center, 8351-E Church St., Gilroy.

The cost is $20 payable in advance or at the door. Due to limited space call in advance to pre-register. Office hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. Special arrangements for people with disabilities will be made if requested 5-days or more in advance of program date.
