The Santa Clara County Public Health Department has scheduled a
flu vaccination clinic for high-risk adults on Friday, Nov. 5, in
Morgan Hill. Approximately 350 doses will be available on a
first-come, first-served basis to high-risk adults while the supply
lasts. The cost will be $20 per vaccine and only cash will be
accepted.
The Santa Clara County Public Health Department has scheduled a flu vaccination clinic for high-risk adults on Friday, Nov. 5, in Morgan Hill. Approximately 350 doses will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to high-risk adults while the supply lasts. The cost will be $20 per vaccine and only cash will be accepted.
Business Health Affiliates will be providing the vaccine for these clinics, as well as supplying the nursing staff to administer the vaccinations. BHA normally provides vaccinations to local businesses in the Bay Area.
Flu vaccinations that day will only be offered to those adults over age 18 years who meet the following high-risk criteria:
• Persons age 65 years and older
• Adults 18 -64 years with chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma, heart disease, kidney disease, severe anemia, cancer and weakened immune system
• Residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
• Providers of out-of-home care to infants less than 6 months of age
• Household contacts of infants less than 6 months of age
• All women who are currently pregnant
• Healthcare workers who provide direct patient care
People will be asked to sign an affidavit confirming that they meet one of the high-risk categories before they will receive a vaccination.
The vaccination clinic will end once the doses have been allocated.
It is important to remember that while individuals in one of the high-risk groups may get the flu, it is unlikely they will have any serious consequences, according to a county health department spokesman. Adults not in one of these high-risk groups have been asked to skip the vaccine this year.
Flu vaccinations take place Friday, Nov. 5, 9am, at the Community and Cultural Center, Hiram Morgan Hill Room, 17000 Monterey Road.
