The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office has identified a man found dead Wednesday night along Willow Springs Road as Phil Fahrener, 45, of San Jose.

His death has been labeled as suspicious by investigators for the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department. The body of the man was sighted by a passing motorist at about 9:48pm on the rural, two-lane road northwest of the city.

No homes are located in the immediate area. Deputy Terrance Helm, spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said the body was laying on the side of the road in plain view. The cause of death remains under investigation. Helm said there was no apparent cause. Investigators are attempting to determine if Fahrener died where he was found or elsewhere.

An autopsy was completed Thursday but the cause of death was still listed as “pending” Friday afternoon.

Anyone with information about the death or was in the Willow Springs Road/Hale Road vicinity Wednesday night and saw anything is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Dean Baker at (408) 808-4500 or (408) 808-4400 (24-hours).
