CHP
Accident: When two Toyota pickups collided early Friday morning, the results were enough to close southbound Highway 101 north of Masten Avenue for at least 45 minutes. Bryan Bailey, 24, of Prunedale, was headed northbound at 6:10 a.m. when traffic ahead slowed down to an almost complete stop. Bailey slowed also, but another Toyota pickup driven by Patrick Ruiz, 38, of Castroville, did not. Ruiz apparently did not realize traffic had nearly stopped, and ran into the back of Bailey’s pickup, with such force that Ruiz’s vehicle went under the back of Bailey’s, causing Bailey’s pickup to flip nose to tail several times, over the center divider and into the southbound lanes. Ruiz’s truck flipped sideways over the center divider, landing on its roof in the southbound lanes. Both men were airlifted to San Jose Medical Center, treated for various lacerations and later released. The report was taken on June 4 at 6:10 a.m.
• Five of 12 passengers in a Ford Econoline van received minor injuries when the vehicle flipped over late Saturday night. Navarro overcorrected, according to the report, turning sharply and the vehicle overturned. The report was taken at 10:56 p.m. on June 5.
