Dennis Blaine Anderson II, 25, will face a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol after he is treated for serious internal injuries, California Highway Patrol spokesman Brad Voyles said Friday.
A friend of Anderson who was drinking with him Thursday night reportedly told a CHP officer they left the bar when it closed. This friend stayed in San Jose, but Anderson decided to drive back to Gilroy.
Anderson’s Dodge pickup went off the side of southbound 101 around 2:30 or 2:45 a.m. Friday, just north of the Burnett Avenue overpass, according to the CHP.
“Apparently, his vehicle had traveled down the embankment and overturned at least twice,” Voyles said.
Anderson was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the truck, the CHP reported. There were no passengers.
Because the pickup was dark-colored and was a considerable distance off the highway, no one saw it until 4:30 a.m., when a trucker reported it to 9-1-1, according to Voyles.
Anderson was conscious when CHP officers arrived.
