They may be worlds apart in terms of talent and accomplishment, but the top-ranked Stanford men’s basketball team and the Live Oak High girls basketball team have one thing in common.

They both have the Robinsons.

While dad T.J. coaches freshman Kristy on the Acorn girls hoops team, Cardinal forward Nick is sinking impossible, buzzer-beating shots from a few giant steps inside half-court at Maples Pavilion to win games for the No. 1 team in the nation.

According to T.J., his son has some experience playing on a nationally top-ranked team.

As a senior in high school, Nick played on the Liberty High boys basketball team that was ranked No. 1 nationally, and ended up winning the state title.

However, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a thrill seeing his son win a key game against Pac-10 rival Arizona to keep the Cardinal’s unbeaten record alive.

“It was awe-some,” he said.

T.J. said he attends all Nick’s home games and Kristy goes when she doesn’t have a basketball game.

Nick, a 24-year-old redshirt junior, is a little older than most of his teammates because he went on a two-year Mormon mission after graduating high school.

According to T.J., Nick spent most of his growing up years in Europe where T.J. played professional basketball for nearly a decade.

Meanwhile, Kristy spent her first year in high school playing varsity basketball and shows some of the same athletic promise her brother has.

T.J. said he and his family moved to Morgan Hill just over a year ago.
