One of the best ways to get to know how a city works is to serve on citizen’s advisory committees. The City of Morgan Hill has put out a call for residents to serve on three of its eight advisory commissions and committees, covering a range of interests.
All that is required is an interest and desire to serve and work with others of similar bent and to show up regularly. All commissions are chosen by and serve under the direction of the City Council.
Commissions meet monthly unless otherwise noted. All terms are for two years and, while the number of vacancies may appear large, sitting commissioners can and often do, reapply for another term. However, they are not automatically reappointed.
• Library Commission, with nine members, provides the council with advice and recommendations regarding existing library facilities and serves as the liaison between the city and the Santa Clara County Library system administration. Currently the commission is working to help the council find a way to build a new and larger library for Morgan Hill. The commission meets the second Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers. The council will make five appointments.
• Parks and Recreation Commission provides advice and recommendations on such matters as fiscally prudent programs, activities, resources, plans and development designed to provide for, regulate and direct the future growth and development of parks facilities and recreation programming for Morgan Hill citizens. PRC has advised on the Aquatic Center, set to open mid-June, and the proposed indoor recreation center. The seven-member PRC meets the fourth Monday at 7 p.m. in the council chambers. Council will make four appointments.
• Bicycle and Trails Advisory Committee – The seven-member BTAC is a sub-committee appointed by the Parks and Recreation Commission. It reviews policies regarding bicycle and trails as they relate to the city’s adopted Bicycle Master Plan. BTAC meets the second Thursday at 6:15 p.m. in council chambers. There are three vacancies.
The deadline to apply for these positions, Friday, Feb. 27, 2004 or until filled. Applicants will be notified of an interview time,
