Firoozeh Dumas, author of Funny in Farsi: A Memoir of Growing Up Iranian in America, comes to Morgan Hill on Saturday, Feb. 7, to discuss her amusing and poignant experiences as one of California’s many immigrants. She will speak at the Morgan Hill Library Story Room, 17575 Peak Avenue (at West Main Avenue) at 2 p.m.

Dumas moved with her family from Iran to Southern California when she was seven years old. Her father spoke only limited English and her mother none. The author has turned her family’s experiences in their adopted country into an entertaining and humorous description of immigrant life. Funny in Farsi has received much praise, including being picked by the San Francisco Chronicle as one of the best of 2003. It has also been chosen as the 2004 “Orange County Reads One Book” selection.

The program is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Morgan Hill Library and the American Association of University Women. The event is free and open to the public.

Copies of Funny in Farsi are available at BookSmart, 17415 Monterey Rd. at West Second St., 778-6467, or at the event. Details: Carol O’Hare, 782-9029.
