For three quarters, the Live Oak High girls basketball team gave its fans a glimpse of its potential, playing even with visiting Salinas on Thursday night.
But the Acorns’ glass slipper shattered in the fourth quarter as the Cowboys pulled away for a 50-37 victory.
Despite the loss, Acorn coach Richard Silva raved about his team’s effort in the midst of a difficult season.
“I’m so proud of this team for their effort,” Silva said.
Live Oak (0-8 in league, 2-20 overall) actually led, 18-17, at halftime for the first time in TCAL play, and still tied with Salinas (6-2 in league, 14-9 overall) at 33-all going into the fourth quarter.
That was when the Cowboy press began to take its toll and Salinas secured the victory.
Live Oak sophomore Analise Curley led her team with 10 points, while senior Ruth Dominguez added eight points for the Acorns.
This week, Live Oak finishes off its season with games at Notre Dame on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and at home against Gilroy on Thursday at 7 p.m.
