Live Oak High boys soccer team in position to make the Homestead
Christmas Cup final four for the second straight year. The Acorn
boys (2-0-2) routed last year
’s Central Coast Section Division II runner-up Pioneer 4-0 at
Homestead High on Saturday. LO’s Garrett Frechette had two goals,
and Anthony Avalos and Casey Mott both added goals in the
victory.

The Acorn boys (2-0-2) routed last year’s Central Coast Section Division II runner-up Pioneer 4-0 at Homestead High on Saturday. LO’s Garrett Frechette had two goals, and Anthony Avalos and Casey Mott both added goals in the victory.
In its Cup opener, the Acorns tied Homestead 2-2 despite holding a lead, and must wait for the Homestead-Pioneer match to find out whether they’ll qualify for the Cup finals.
Meanwhile, the LO girls soccer team had to settle for a scoreless tie with Homestead at the Palo Alto Tournament on Saturday. LO (1-1-1) was led by a solid defensive effort paced by Jaime Hickey, according to Coach Tony Vasquez.
LO wrestling to compete at GHS Novice tourney
Live Oak High’s wrestlers will get an early-season test when they compete at the Gilroy High Novice Tournament on Wednesday. Action begins at 3pm.
Acorn boys headed for Wildcat Shoot-Out, LO girls play in Monta Vista tourney
Looking to improve on last year’s Consolation Championship, the Live Oak High boys basketball team begins play in Los Gatos High’s Wildcat Shoot-Out on Thursday. The Acorn boys open against Pioneer on Thursday at 7pm. The tourney’s semifinals are set for Friday with the finals on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the LO girls hoops team plays its opener in the Monta Vista Tournament against Scotts Valley on Thursday at 3:30pm.
