Live Oak High’s Ronni Gautschi and Danielle Maldonado have earned All-Central Coast Section honors in girls water polo for their performances during the recently completed season. Gautschi, a junior who earned her second straight league MVP award this year, was named to the all-CCS first team, while Maldonado, a senior and first-team all-league selection, earned all-CCS honorable mention. Gautschi and Maldonado helped lead the Acorn girls water polo team (22-7 overall) to another league title and a CCS playoff berth. Maldonado is scheduled to compete in the Seniors All-Star Game at Sacred Heart Prep today at 10am. Last season, Gautschi made the all-CCS second team and fellow Acorn Chelsea Laning earned honorable mention.

Sobrato athletics fundraiser at Sinaloa

Sinaloa Cafe will be hosting a Dinner Night Out fundraiser for the Sobrato High Athletic Booster Club on Tuesday, Dec. 7 from 4-9pm. Sinaloa, located at 17535 S. Monterey Road in Morgan Hill, will donate 5 percent of all proceeds to the Sobrato Boosters. Patrons need to tell their servers they are participating in the fundraiser.

Ex-49ers to hold annual Toy and Gift Drive

Former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Dana Stubblefield, who played for both the 49ers and the Raiders, will join fellow ex-Niners Randy Kirk, Rhett Hall and Chris Dahlman for an annual Toy and Gift Drive for local families on Monday, Dec. 6 from 5:30-9pm at the Boxseat Sports Grill, 15650 Vineyard Blvd. in Morgan Hill. The former NFL stars will be on hand to sign autographs. And, San Francisco 49ers and other NFL memorabilia will be raffled off throughout the evening. A raffle ticket will be given out for each unwrapped toy or gift that is donated, and additional raffle tickets will be sold. Gifts for teens are strongly encouraged because they tend to be in short supply. Items collected during the toy and gift drive will be used in Community Solutions’ Love Basket program and St. Catherine Church’s Giving Tree program.

Tigers win MHPB Winter Ball Mustang title

With victories over the Mets in the semifinals and the A’s in the finals, the Tigers won Morgan Hill Pony Baseball’s Winter Ball Mustang tournament championship last month. The Tigers crushed the Mets 14-1, then routed the A’s 12-3 in the title game.

In the Bronco division, the Angels beat the Cubs for the title. No further details were available.

MHPB’s Winter baseball season runs from September through mid-November, culminating in a single elimination tournament for teams in the Pinto (6-8 age group), Mustang (8-10), and Bronco (10-12).

Pony baseball signups

Morgan Hill Pony baseball is holding signups for the 2005 season. Just bring a certified copy of your child’s birth certificate or other proof of birth date to Mountain Mike’s Pizza, located in Morgan Hill (Tennant Station and Monterey Road) on Saturday, Dec. 11, or Saturday, Jan. 15, from noon until 2pm, complete the standard league Registration form, and pay the fees..

A late registration will be held Jan. 26, from 7:30-8:30pm.

In addition, volunteer parents are needed to staff virtually every aspect of league operations. There is a need for parent volunteers to manage and coach teams, maintain fields, and help behind the scenes in a myriad of special functions that are overseen by the very active MHPB Booster organization.
