A solid defensive effort and just enough offense propelled the Live Oak High girls basketball team to its first win of the season after three losses – a 35-17 victory over Los Altos in the second round of the Mt. Pleasant Tournament on Thursday.
“The girls definitely had a lot more fun (Thursday) night,” first-year LO coach Jeff Perkins said.
The win vaulted the Acorn girls into the tourney’s consolation finals yesterday.
In Thursday’s win, LO’s Ana Curley scored a game-high 10 points to lead the way, and Megan Gulla added six on a pair of key 3-pointers.
LO led 14-8 at halftime.
“Both teams had trouble finding their offenses,” Perkins said. “We just found ours first and they’re still looking for theirs.”
Earlier in the week, LO dropped a 46-34 decision in a physical battle at Alvarez on Tuesday despite eight points from Mattie Borges and seven from Afshawn Chamakian, then fell to Santa Teresa 53-31 in the first round of the Mt. Pleasant tourney on Wednesday despite Gulla’s eight.
