Morgan Hill’s fine soccer tradition was on full display Friday at Live Oak High. Unfortunately for the Acorn girls, not enough of that tradition was playing for the home team.
Led by midfielder Weynab Admassu, defender Allison Power and several other local residents, Valley Christian upended LO 2-0 in non-league action.
The match, which was rescheduled from a planned Thursday evening showdown between the two defending section champions, was scoreless in the first half.
But the Warriors (3-2 overall) broke through early in the second half on a goal by Shanae Jones, then added the icing late in the half on a goal by MH’s Rachel Schweiger. Meanwhile, the Acorns (1-2-1 overall) had plenty of trouble developing scoring opportunities against the tough VC defense.
The Acorns have a week and a half off over the Christmas holiday, then host Archbishop Mitty on Tuesday, Dec. 28 at noon.
Earlier in the week, the LO boys soccer team had to settle for a scoreless tie against host Seaside on Thursday. The usually high-scoring Acorn boys (5-0-3 overall) were unable to generate any goals against the Trojans, who packed the defensive end to frustrate LO.
Today, the Acorns play Mt. Pleasant (6-1 overall) at 10am in the Homestead Christmas Cup quarterfinals at Homestead High.
