The Live Oak Athletic Boosters Club invites all Booster Club members, interested parents, athletes, coaches, administrators and students to the club’s monthly meeting, which will be an open forum, on Tuesday, Jan. 11 at 7pm in the Live Oak High Science Lecture Hall, 1505 E. Main Ave. The Booster Club is looking to hear commentary regarding club policies, suggestions or ideas regarding past and future fundraising activities. The club is also looking for candidates interested in running for the club’s board of directors. Elections will take place in the spring.

Spirit Girl’s softball signups

The Spirit of Morgan Hill Girls’ softball league is accepting player registrations for girls ages 5-18 and coach/manager applications for the upcoming 2005 season. Player registration forms are available online at www.eteamz.active.com\spiritofmorganhill or at Friendly Fred’s in Tennant Station (by the new Safeway). Walk up registration takes place Saturday, Jan. 8 from 9am-2pm and Monday, Jan. 10 from 5-8pm at Friendly Fred’s. Player evaluation and uniform-sizing will take place on Saturday, Jan. 22.

Morgan Hill Swim Club tryouts

The Morgan Hill Swim Club has begun its 44th straight year of representing the Morgan Hill community in USA Swimming. Tryouts for the team are open to any individual age 6 to 18 are held at the Morgan Hill Aquatic Center every Monday through Friday at 5 PM. Monthly dues begin at no more than $75, with sibling and year round discount programs offered. The team was awarded national status for the second straight year as a bronze level club by USA Swimming, and has been named as the host team for the 2005 Far Western Championships to be held in Morgan Hill from March 31 through April 3.

Gav coach urges help for tsunami disaster victims

Gavilan College men’s basketball assistant coach Michael Baumgartner is urging members of the local community to pitch in and help out with the relief effort for victims of the Dec. 26 earthquake/tsunami in the Indian Ocean. Baumgartner, whose family sponsors underprivileged children through the charitable organizations Save the Children (www.savethechildren.org) and World Vision (www.wvus.org), suggests those two Web sites as a starting point for those who wish to give “a few pennies” to the effort.
