After a three-hour standoff in an east Morgan Hill neighborhood, police officers peacefully convinced a distraught man to back off his suicidal threats, according to authorities.
About 5:05 p.m. Feb. 3, police responded to the area of Oakridge Lane after several 911 calls reported a male subject was smashing the windows out of vehicles in the neighborhood, police said.
While police showed up to the incident, the man climbed onto the third story of his former residence and threatened to jump to the concrete patio below, authorities said. Officers established a perimeter and made contact with the man, later identified as Frank Mockey, 55 of Morgan Hill.
Mockey was upset over a recent divorce and a domestic violence restraining order against him, police said.
Officers negotiated with Mockey for nearly three hours as additional emergency personnel and EMS arrived at the scene, according to police. Mockey eventually decided to climb away from the edge of the roof and he was safely taken into custody without further incident.
Mockey was booked at Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of felony vandalism and violation of a domestic violence restraining order, police said.
