Two dead in string of wrecks; bus passengers elude tragedy

A teen who was shot in the area of Tennant Avenue and Church Street Wednesday night is expected to survive, according to police.
Morgan Hill Police are investigating the shooting, which occurred just before 9pm Feb. 21. A male juvenile was detained as a “person of interest” in relation to the incident, according to MHPD Sgt. Troy Hoefling.
As of 10pm, police continued to search the area for a second subject who might have been involved in the shooting, Hoefling said. Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies searched residences and commercial properties in the area on foot with a K9 dog, while a police helicopter circled overhead. MHPD and sheriff’s vehicles blocked intersections approaching the area of Tennant Avenue and Church Street as authorities enforced a perimeter around the shooting scene.
Hoefling said the shooting followed “an altercation” between the 18-year-old victim and two subjects. The victim suffered “non-life threatening” injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.
Police did not release a description of the subject who remains at large.
Anyone with information about the incident can call MHPD at (408) 779-2101.
