Petty theft
A man in his 20s with a goatee stole jewelry from Hobby Lobby, 990 Cochrane Road. The crime was reported 7:26pm Feb. 10.
An intoxicated man was seen hiding bottles of alcohol in his pants and stealing olives from Safeway, 840 E. Dunne Ave. The theft was reported 2:02am Feb. 11.
Three men walked out of Home Depot, 860 E. Dunne Ave., with power tools they did not pay for. They left the parking lot in a gray Infiniti with paper plates. The theft was reported 6:16pm Feb. 11.
Fire
Police and firefighters responded to a vehicle on fire in the parking lot of Live Oak High School, 1505 E. Main Ave. The fire was reported 6:35am Feb. 11.
A brush fire on the side of U.S. 101 near Cochrane Road spread to a freeway sign advertising businesses in the Cochrane Plaza shopping center, resulting in damage to the sign. The fire was reported next to the southbound on-ramp at Cochrane Road, in front of Hobby Lobby. Authorities briefly closed the on-ramp while they responded to the blaze. The fire was reported 5:50pm Feb. 12.
Municipal code violation
The owner of a business near the intersection of Joleen Way and East Dunne Avenue reported a motorhome was parked on the street near her business. She said she doesn’t want the motorhome parked in the area and doesn’t want its occupants walking on the sidewalk in front of the business. The incident was reported 3:44pm Feb. 11.
Auto burglary
A thief or thieves broke into a 1997 Honda Civic parked in a guest lot on the 100 block of Lewis Lane. Stole from the vehicle were two large sailing bags. The burglary was reported 8:19pm Feb. 11.
Someone broke into a blue Nissan pickup and stole tools. The crime was reported 5:41am Feb. 12 on the 16800 block of Barnell Avenue.
A thief or thieves smashed the window of a Toyota Tundra parked in front of Sun Valley Market, 16725 Monterey Road, and stole cigarettes. The crime was reported 2:20pm Feb. 12.
Accident
A vehicle collided with a brown horse in the area of Monterey Road and Live Oak Avenue. The horse was injured, and the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene until authorities arrived. Before the collision, minutes earlier the horse had bucked a male human rider off its back, and continued to the area where the car hit it. There was no rider on the horse when it was hit. The collision was reported 3:30pm Feb. 6.
Stolen vehicle
A Ford Taurus stolen from a location in San Jose was recovered on the 200 block of West Main Avenue in Morgan Hill. The vehicle was reported recovered at 2:29pm Feb. 9.
Disturbance
Three young men petitioning customers outside Safeway were reportedly arguing with a customer, and multiple customers had complained about their behavior. The men were asking for money and signatures for “a ban that is going on in San Jose.” The disturbance was reported 4:06pm Feb. 9.
Theft
Someone stole a cashier’s check for $20,000 from a UPS drop box, and attempted to cash it in Sacramento. The check was not cashed. The theft was reported 5:47pm Feb. 9.
Burglary
A thief or thieves broke into a shed on Spring Lane and stole some cordless drills. The victim told police he might have forgotten to lock the padlocks on the shed door. The burglary was reported 11:35am Feb. 10. Another victim on Dewey Circle in Woodland Estates Mobile Home Park reported a similar burglary the same evening, in which someone broke into her shed and stole a drill. That burglary was reported 2:38pm Feb. 10.
