MORGAN HILL — Michael Schreiber and Ken Hall doubled and drove in two runs, and Live Oak strung together victories for the first time in two weeks, pounding Fremont 13-0.
A day after beating rival Gilroy in thrilling fashion, the Acorns returned to Sarich Field with 14 hits. Hall, who singled in the game-winning run Tuesday, provided two of those plus a pair of runs. Ryan Muir and Sean Silveira also scored twice and went 2 for 3.
Muir is batting .478 this spring.
Cody Van Aken walked one and struck out four in five innings of two-hit baseball to pick up his second win of the season.
Live Oak (8-9), which beat the Firebirds (5-10) of the El Camino Division 7-2 earlier this year, will wrap up its nonleague break with a 4 p.m. contest today at North Salinas. The Acorns are scheduled to play two Mount Hamilton Division contests against last-place Leigh next week.
SOFTBALL
The Lady Acorns moved into second place in the Mount Hamilton with a 10-5 victory over Evergreen Valley at Live Oak High School.
Sophomore pitcher Katie Obbema (4-1) highlighted her fourth straight victory with nine strikeouts, and Kayla Cisneroz came within a home run of hitting for the cycle. The junior tripled, doubled and collected two RBIs.
Winners of four straight, the Acorns lead defending champion Westmont by half a game at 4-1 in league. The two will play at 3:30 p.m. Friday at LOHS.
Oak Grove 5, Sobrato 2
Samantha Ribeiro scored once and joined Nicole Kiles at 2 for 3, slapping and dragging, for the visiting Lady Bulldogs.
Heather Johnson added a single, double and an RBI for Sobrato, which fell to 2-3 in the Santa Teresa Division.
Bulldogs pitchers Frankie Kellett and Katie Machado had two strikeouts apiece. Kellett surrendered four runs on six hits in four innings, and Machado allowed one run on two hits in two innings. Neither pitcher allowed an extra-base hit.
Sobrato will host Lick at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
