MORGAN HILL — The Makos of Morgan Hill Swim Club last weekend collected 15 new ‘A’ times, 13 new ‘B’ times, two new Junior Olympic Standards, one new Far Westerns-qualifying time and one Pacific Reportable time in their first long course meet of the season.

More than 650 swimmers representing 36 teams from the Bay Area and Sacramento made the trip to the Aquatics Center — and were rewarded with fair weather and a good meet.

Most teams have far more new ‘B’ times than ‘A’ times; this event was a different story for the Makos.

Chris Critzer, 8, had a good weekend, snagging two ‘A’ times in the 50-meter backstroke and freestyle along with ‘B’ times in the 100-meter backstroke and freestyle and the 50-meter butterfly.

Anna Deacon, 10, recorded a new ‘A’ time in the 100-meter butterfly. Mackenzie Mitchell, 12, reeled off two new ‘A’ standards in the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke. Abbey Pfefferlen, 12, enjoyed some huge swims and added two ‘A’ times in the 50-meter backstroke and 100 butterfly. Evan Richardson, 12, had a solid weekend that featured ‘A’ marks in the 50- and 200-meter freestyle and the 200 breaststroke. Jenna Stockman, 8, earned a new ‘A’ standard in the 50 backstroke along with a ‘B’ time in the 50 breaststroke. Frankie Zhang finished the meet with new ‘A’ times in the 50 butterfly and 100 breaststroke and freestyle.

Lauren Akin showed no letup from her strong showing at Far Westerns. She clocked two new long course Junior Olympic standards in the 50 butterfly and 200-meter individual medley, plus a new ‘A’ time in the 200 breaststroke for good measure.

Kaitlin Rooney, 10, had a huge swim in the 100 backstroke, earning her first Far Western-qualifying time.

Hannah Pfefferlen, 8, raced to her first long course Pacific Recordable Time — used to establish Pacific Swimming’s top 10 and top five finishers at the end of the season. She also added an ‘A’ time in the 50 backstroke and, to round things out, collected a new ‘B’ time in the 100 butterfly.

Owen Fry, 9, earned his first long course ‘B’ time in the 50 backstroke. Amanda Giacobbe, 13, raced to a new ‘B’ time in her first 800-meter heat. Michael Pham, 8, received his first new long course ‘B’ time in the 50 backstroke. Brandon Pride, 9, snagged a new ‘B’ time in the 50 freestyle. Bryn Rasmussen, 8, earned a new ‘B’ time in the 50 breaststroke. Felix Sjolund, 12, came away with his first ‘B’ times in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, and Nicole Critzer, 8, zoomed off ‘B’ times in the 100 backstroke and freestyle.

Next up for the Makos: Pacific Swimming’s 10-and-under Championship meet held Saturday at Lynbrook High School. Morgan Hill’s young swimmers have done well; a large crew of them qualified for the event.
