Cajun food coming soon to Morgan Hill

“Dear Red Phone. I am wondering about the incident that happened in front of Rite Aid Saturday March 27. It really makes me wonder how safe we are as residents when on numerous occasions I have been in the Rite Aid parking lot in the evening and there has been no lighting, or very minimal lighting and have seen more then several police cars (local and sheriff) cruise by and not even bother to pull through the parking lot to check for safety of residents. Is there any way to see if Rite Aid can fix the lighting in their parking lot to make it safer?

Red Phone: Dear See the Light, Red Phone contacted Sgt. Jerry Neumayer to learn about the incident you are referring to. He said police got a call about six to seven Hispanic males engaged in a fight with one another.

“He reported that they were hitting one another with bats,” Neumayer said. “Three males fled the area in a black sedan and the other three left on foot prior to police arriving. At this time, we still have not identified any possible victims or others that may have been involved. As far as extra patrol, MHPD normally has between four to five uniformed patrol officers, one of which is the supervisor, handling calls for service or making enforcement stops. That area of Morgan Hill at that time is usually busy due to businesses at Tennant Station and Vineyard Town Center. We encourage citizens to call MHPD if they see any unusual or suspicious persons/activity anywhere in the city.”

As far as the lighting, Red Phone sent an e-mail to Tom Nelson with Colliers International, which is trying to lease a couple of vacant stores. He said he’d forward your suggestion to the property owners.

Hope that helps, good caller.

Watch out for speeders on Peet

“What is the speed limit on Peet Road between Cochrane and Half roads? I often see cars and trucks humming along at 60-plus mph down this street. Students often cross this street (there are no crosswalks) because the school bus picks up at Peet and Arguello.”

Red Phone: Dear What’s the Limit, Red Phone took a drive to the area and found a sign that says the limit is 35 mph. In just a short time there, Red Phone noticed several vehicles motoring along at 10 to 15 mph over the speed limit. Good caller, Red Phone forwarded this to police, so they are now aware of your concern.
