Hollister resident John Fortino passed away Monday, April 5th, 2010, at Mabie Skilled Nursing Center in Hollister at the age of 93 years. John was a native of Capaldo, KS. After serving with the U.S. Air force, John moved from Kansas to Hollister in 1951 where he established himself as a self employed painting contractor in addition to being an original owner from 1968 until 1977 of the Villa Pace Restaurant with his late brothers Eugene and Chester Fortino. John was a member of the Hollister Lodge No. 1436, B.P.O.E.; the S.I.R.S.; Bolado Park Golf Men’s Club; the I.C.F.; Golden Years Travel Club, and the Bay Area Painters and Tapers Union District Council No. 16 of San Jose. John enjoyed golfing, card playing especially Pedro and Poker, dancing, cooking, and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. John was the spouse of the late Marie Fortino who passed away on December 22, 2001.

Surviving John are his daughter and son-in-law Teresa and Ken Scherpinski of Salinas; grandson John Scherpinski and his spouse Jennifer of Salinas, granddaughter Krystal Scherpinski of San Diego, great- granddaughter Jordyn Rae Scherpinski of Salinas, sister-in-law Josephine Falcone of Gilroy and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 8th from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home 870 San Benito St., Hollister. Family and friends will leave the mortuary Friday morning at 9:30 A.M. to proceed to Sacred Heart Church 5th and College Streets, Hollister for a Mass of The Resurrection at 10:00 A.M.

PRIVATE entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Memorials are preferred to Mabie Skilled Nursing Center North Side or to the Genie Flores Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o the mortuary chapel.
